Themed reading for your 'antilibrary'

Open-access content Wednesday 21st December 2011 — updated 5.13pm, Wednesday 29th April 2020

The Actuarial Profession has produced a series of themed reading lists for actuaries

2

In The Black Swan, author Nassim Taleb refers to the vast personal library — 'antilibrary' — owned by Umberto Eco, containing 30,000 books. According to Eco, a private library ?is a research tool in which read books are far less valuable than unread ones. For that reason, "a personal library should contain as much of what you do not know as your financial means, mortgage rates, and the currently tight real estate market allow you to put there". The same could equally well apply to an organisational library.

In the interests of making its antilibrary more accessible, the Profession has produced a series of themed reading lists that can be downloaded from the library services area of the website at http://tinyurl.com/6a66yfv

Recent additions to our lists, which can be found at http://tinyurl.com/69o9zw9, include:

• Climate change and the environment

• The credit crunch and financial crises

• Stock market volatility.
