Actuary of the future: Katie Johnson

Open-access content Wednesday 25th June 2014

Katie Johnson of...

2

Employer and area of work Hodge Lifetime. Life insurance.

How would your best friend describe you? Like a pimple on her derrière.

What motivates you? Attractive gym instructors.

What is your personal motto? Don't be jel, be reem.

Name five dream companions to be stuck on a desert island with?  Bear Grylls - He would keep me safe with his incredible survival skills; Tom Kerridge - He could cook me delicious meals; Beyoncé - because she is the pinnacle of perfection; Ryan Gosling - everybody needs some eye candy on a desert island; Captain Sparrow - because he managed to get himself off a desert island by just drinking rum.

What's your most 'actuarial' habit? I've been known to carry out experience analysis on the quantity and frequency of my sneezes.

If you could learn one random skill, what would it be? Beat boxing.

Favourite Excel function? Large. Max is great, but what if you want to find the second largest number? Eh?

How do you relax away from the office? When I'm not dancing with my hip hop crew, I spend hours with my housemate singing silly songs and playing 'would you rather?'

Alternative career choice? Elphaba in the West End musical Wicked.

Tell us something unusual about yourself I can stick my tummy out really far to resemble a baby bump. It's quite freaky!

Greatest risk you have ever taken? I travelled in a tuk tuk in Thailand. My life flashed before my eyes!

If you could go back in history, who would you like to meet? Michael Jackson - His music was superb and I would ask him for a dance lesson or two.

What's your most treasured possession? My calculator phone case. It's cool, honest!

What are the top three things you would like to achieve in your lifetime? 1. To have my photo in The Actuary magazine and qualify, of course. 2. To have a happy, healthy family. 3. To help design my own house.

If you ruled the world, what would you change first? I would make it totally acceptable to break out into song and dance whenever you feel it is necessary.
