A bright future

During my time as president, I’ve called on the profession to step out of the shadows and gain the recognition that I believe it deserves.

During my time as president, I've called on the profession to step out of the shadows and gain the recognition that I believe it deserves.
During the past 12 months your Council has delivered a broad programme of activity, comprising an updated curriculum and internationally aligned syllabus for learners. We have also commissioned a wide-ranging survey to understand what our membership values most, and have continued building the visibility of our members and the profession in general.

As part of our work to raise the profile of the profession, we commissioned polling data which showed us that a third of UK adults believe they know what an actuary is.

We reached out to a global audience of thousands via our #iamanactuary campaign, and we've explored how the profession is evolving to meet the challenges of new and emerging fields such as data science.

We've taken strides to ensure that the profession can continue to be relevant to the evolving needs of our global audience, and to the evolving needs of employers, by ensuring that learners gain the recognition they deserve - just as employers gain the right mix of skills for them.

I've been truly proud to make this recognition a major part of my presidency, and I'd like to end my final letter as your president with an appeal for you to keep on talking about the incredible work you do as actuaries, to keep on putting the public interest at the heart of your practice, and to keep on stepping out of the shadows! #iamanactuary
