The IFoA's next president-elect is to be Kartina Tahir Thomson, it was announced today (29 March 2023).
Kartina, a senior director at WTW, will assume her role in June, when Kalpana Shah takes over from Matt Saker as IFoA president. She will then become president herself a year later, in June 2024.
Her actuarial career, spanning 25 years, has given her experience in many areas, including risk, governance and regulation. A former insurance chief risk officer and a risk and analytics lead at a global insurance broker, Kartina spent six years at the Bank of England, where she oversaw a portfolio of insurers responsible for ensuring UK financial market stability.
Alongside this, Kartina has been a long-serving IFoA volunteer. For the past three years she has, as chair of the IFoA Foundation, championed inclusion, social mobility and education. She is a member of the Audit and Risk Committee, and served on the Council for six years. She has also been on the Board of Directors of the Actuarial Association of Europe for four years.
“By nurturing a collaborative and inclusive culture, we can deepen the impact of the profession and continue to make a difference in addressing the societal challenges that we face,” said Kartina on her appointment.
