In August the IFoA was delighted to welcome more than 30 gifted students from the London School of Economics (LSE) Summer School to Staple Inn, where it showcased careers in actuarial science.
The A level students, selected by LSE for their outstanding ability in maths, discovered what a day in the life of an actuary looks like and took part in panel discussions on employability. Students also completed maths puzzles written by IFoA education actuary Sally Calder that have previously been featured on BBC Radio 4's Today programme.
Students also stayed on after the event to ask the IFoA's career ambassadors questions about career paths, university course choices and STEM career options.
IFoA career ambassador Sajanthi Nathan enjoyed the opportunity to encourage and inspire gifted students from diverse backgrounds: "It's always great to support these events, and they're always really rewarding! I remember being 18 myself, and how much of an impact it had to see and hear people I could relate to talking about their careers - it made those career paths seem all the more open to me."
We would like to say a huge thank you to our speakers: Edward Burns and Sam Cooper (Aon), Christian Ah-See and James Cheeseman (Barnett-Waddingham), Yuen Ng (Deloitte), Lloyd Richards (Crowe), Abdul Basith (Mercer), Sajanthi Nathan (Pacific Life RE) and IFoA education actuary Sonal Shah.
