In July we were delighted to be in Bangkok, along with IFoA president-Elect Tan Suee Chieh, to award the Quality Assurance Scheme (QAS) accreditation to AIA Thailand.

The objectives of the QAS are to promote quality assurance at an organisational level, to promote confidence in the work of actuaries, and to provide an important mechanism to identify issues affecting the quality of actuarial work. We were incredibly pleased to offer the QAS accreditation to AIA Thailand in recognition of these qualities.

AIA received the first QAS to be awarded in Thailand, and we're delighted that the accreditation is continuing to find a truly global audience. We were particularly pleased to welcome representatives from the Thai financial regulator to support AIA's QAS accreditation. The event was attended by the Office of Insurance Commission's assistant secretary general of supervisory standards development, Dr Chayanin Kerdpholngarm, who gave a speech welcoming the accreditation.

Johann Dutoit, AIA Thailand chief actuary, said: "We are very proud that AIA Thailand Actuarial has received the prestigious QAS accreditation from the IFoA. We strongly believe that it reflects the best practices that AIA has put in place and we are convinced that it will provide confidence to our regulator and our auditors in the quality and reliability of our work.

"We also believe that it will be a valuable tool to encourage more good people to join us when they see the high standards that we uphold at AIA."
