At the end of 2018, the North West Actuarial Society (NWAS) was pleased to host Sir Steve Webb at Eversheds Sutherland, Manchester.
As Minister of State for Pensions from 2010 to 2015, Webb oversaw reforms to both private and state pension provision.
Webb shared insights on managing legacy pension promises and his thoughts on sustainable retirement provision. He outlined his vision to simplify pension benefits, potentially with a 'pensions pound' converting existing benefits into a set of standardised rights, which can then be compared across all schemes. He also commented on the latest hot topic in pensions - GMP equalisation.
Finally, Webb opened the floor to questions from the audience. The session concluded with a lively discussion and wine.
