Celebrating 150 years of our Royal Charter

Open-access content Wednesday 7th November 2018 — updated 5.50pm, Wednesday 29th April 2020

On 10 October, members and volunteers gathered at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh for a reception to celebrate our volunteers and mark the 150th anniversary of the Faculty receiving its Royal Charter – the first Royal Charter to be granted to an actuarial body.

Pictured from left are Alan Watson, Council member and Leader of the Scottish Board, with David Hare (IFoA president 2013-2014), IFoA president Jules Constantinou and IFoA president-elect John Taylor. Since the IFoA was formed, four members of the Scottish Constituency have been elected to the presidential team, and it was a special moment to have three of them together for this commemorative photograph (the fourth being the first IFoA president, Ronnie Bowie).

Our volunteers are part of a global community that runs, regulates and advances our profession. This reception was one of a number of volunteer recognition receptions held throughout the year. Since July, receptions have taken place in Beijing, Chicago, Edinburgh, Hong Kong, London, Singapore, Thailand and Toronto; the next is taking place in Liverpool at the end of November.
