The latest edition of the Longevity Bulletin has just been produced. The technology edition (Issue 11) considers a range of technological developments and the key issues arising from them as the relationship between society and technology continues to evolve.

This issue looks at:

  • The Internet of Health Things: Is the rapid growth of the use of devices, products and services to enhance health and wellbeing a game-changer for the healthcare industry?
  • Community-based self-care: With digital technologies playing a growing role in the emerging practice of self-care, this article outlines their application and limitations, highlighting the need for face-to-face support infrastructures.
  • Autonomous vehicles: Can they contribute to reduced mortality and morbidity, and how might risks in vehicle insurance be redefined?
  • Life extension technologies: If human life could be extended by biotechnical interventions and in alternative forms, how might society and insurers respond, and can the stuff of science fiction help actuaries and others when considering how to deal with disruptive technology?
  • How IFoA Working Parties are investigating the impact of e-cigarettes, wearables and the Internet of Things.
