IAA Chicago... and all that jazz

The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries was pleased to attend the biannual conference of the International Actuarial Association (IAA) in October, held in Chicago.

The IFoA sent a strong team of executives and volunteers to represent our organisation and contribute to furthering actuarial science and fostering good relationships with our sibling associations.

After a packed week of round tables and committee meetings, the conference culminated in the IAA Council meeting. The IFoA was represented by president-elect Jules Constantinou, attending his first such gathering in his current role.

The IFoA is delighted that during this meeting the IAA’s Global Education Syllabus was adopted by popular vote. The approval of two new full members of the association (the Actuarial Society of Kazakhstan and the Actuarial Society of Ghana) was also announced.

Further discussion focused on the issue of the fee structure for full member associations to the IAA, with the current system widely acknowledged as needing urgent review.

The IFoA Executive volunteered to chair a taskforce to examine this matter, with a view to finding an appropriate solution before the next conference, to be held in Berlin in May.
