Noteable effort made in Pitch Battle

This summer, BBC One launched a brand- new show to see some of the best choirs in the UK do battle to be crowned Pitch Battle champions. My a cappella group, ‘The Noteables’, were delighted to be selected as one of the 30 choirs to take part and we had to work hard to impress the judges Gareth Malone, Kelis and Chaka Khan.

We performed a fantastic dance-inspired opening number with the other five choirs in our episode, which was arranged by the inspirational Deke Sharon, the genius behind the Pitch Perfect films. The first round involved us performing a ‘showstopper’ piece. We loved our chosen song Some nights by Fun, which put us through our paces with all of the dance moves we had to learn.

The second round saw us fight it out with another group in a riff battle, where we each sang 30 second snippets of songs on a chosen theme. Our theme, ‘Begging’, saw us perform songs by Duffy, KC and the Sunshine Band and Duran Duran.

Sadly we were beaten by the incredible Fly Boys, who went on to compete in the final round.

The whole experience was a whirlwind of rehearsals, choreography lessons, wardrobe, hair and make-up (all while cramming in revision for my exams) and we will remember it forever.
