Longevity: is the tide turning?

Open-access content Wednesday 6th September 2017 — updated 5.50pm, Wednesday 29th April 2020

Over the past century, life expectancy has increased significantly around the world. However, in recent years, the rate of this improvement appears to have slowed in some countries.

Over the past century, life expectancy has increased significantly around the world. However, in recent years, the rate of this improvement appears to have slowed in some countries. The reasons behind this change are still being debated, with potential causes, such as the impact of antimicrobial resistance, emerging.

For the first time, the IFoA has joined forces with the Society of Actuaries in the US and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries on its latest Longevity Bulletin, Longevity: Is The Tide Turning?

The bulletin considers these emerging trends and the possible drivers for this change.

You can read this latest edition online and sign up to the Longevity Bulletin mailing list if you would like to hear about future issues.
