The IFoA's biannual thought leadership lecture will be delivered by Michael Sanders, chief scientist and head of research, evaluation and social action at the Behavioural Insights Team (BIT), a social purpose company that was formerly part of the Cabinet Office and is now jointly owned by the UK government, the innovation charity Nesta and the team's employees.
The lecture will look at the uses of data science for actuaries and policymakers. Afterwards, there will be a Q&A session, with the ability to ask questions remotely, followed by an opportunity for networking for those able to attend the live event.
BIT's policy work supports the design and analysis of randomised controlled trials as well as the use of quasi-experimental methods and data science. The team also leads a series of trials aimed at encouraging charitable donations, volunteering and social action.
Sanders is an associate fellow of the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford, where he teaches behavioural science and policy, and he is also an affiliate of the Harvard Behavioral Insights Group. He holds an MSc in economics and public policy and a PhD in economics, both from the University of Bristol.
Please join us for what promises to be an interesting and insightful evening. The event will be held on Wednesday 13 September at the Assembly Rooms, 54 George Street, Edinburgh, EH2 2LR, from 17:30 to 20:00, or watch the lecture live online at bit.ly/2vEWyQE
