FASS is the local actuarial community covering the Edinburgh and wider Central Scotland region. FASS has served actuarial students, Fellows and university students for over 25 years, providing a range of talks, social and networking events to help build and develop the actuarial community within our area. FASS is supported by our exec, social and talks committees, and our reps, who represent 20 employers of actuaries across the Edinburgh and Central Scotland area. These include representatives from life, GI, pensions and investments areas.

We have two flagship events in FASS each year; our Hot Topics Conference and our FASS Ball. We hosted our Hot Topics conference in March this year, which was attended by around 80 actuaries and other interested parties from across the local financial services community. With five esteemed presenters, including Craig Turnbull (SLI) and Peter Watson (KPMG), we covered a broad range of topics of interest within the actuarial community, from risk transfers in DB schemes to what the future looks like for risk functions.

Our FASS Ball (complete with traditional Scottish ceilidh of course!) was held on Friday 12 May at the fabulous George Hotel in Edinburgh, where we had the chance to let our hair down and network in a more social setting.

Last year we also revamped our website (www.fass-online.co.uk/) so visit to find out more about events or to contact us.
