IFoA president-elect, Marjorie Ngwenya, visited Singapore with council members on 8 and 9 May to learn about the opportunities and challenges faced by the profession in South-East Asia.
Many of these meetings hear delegates raising interesting questions and suggestions with Nanyang Technological University (an IFoA accredited university), Monetary Authority of Singapore, Central Provident Fund Board, Life Insurance Association, Singapore Actuarial Society and the UK Department for International Trade.
Some key discussions over both days included:
- Understanding the ever-changing landscape of actuarial science and the importance of professionalism
- Competition from other industries and opportunities for future collaboration
- Adapting education and training requirements to better equip current and future actuaries.
Thanks to panellists Marjorie Ngwenya, Matthew Maguire, president of the Singapore Actuarial Society, and Wai Yi Lee, director at the Monetary Authority of Singapore, for sharing their views during a members' CPD event and new qualifiers ceremony that was organised in conjunction with their visit. Congratulations to all the new qualifiers that took part.
