Hounding publicans and running like hares

Open-access content Tuesday 7th March 2017 — updated 5.50pm, Wednesday 29th April 2020

On 18 November 2016, Birmingham city centre was awash with actuaries who descended on the local pubs to take part in the annual Birmingham Actuarial Society Hare & Hounds pub quiz.

Sent to answer questions on four of the city's finest drinking establishments (and one rather grotty one), eight teams completed the arduous task.

The Wesleyan's "Squidward" team were streets ahead at the half-way stage but unfortunately, due to shocking timekeeping over the second half of the quiz, were docked points at the final count.

This left Aon Hewitt's "Bush's Babes" as clear winners at the end of the night, helped by the bonus points awarded for the excellent (and rather incriminating) photos and videos taken through the course of the evening.

As winners, Bush's Babes 'won' the responsibility of organising next year's quiz and chose the charity to which the evening's proceeds should be awarded.

All in all, a great night was had by all, and £240 was raised for the Alzheimer's Society.
