In last month's edition of The Actuary magazine (August 2016), we notified members about the changes to the volunteer expenses policy.
The new (revised) policy is a principle-based approach. At the heart of this policy is the following standard: "We ask our volunteers (and all who support the IFoA, including executive staff) to stop and consider the following before agreeing to incur a charge: does the expense represent value for money for members and is there a budget from which this can be taken? All expenses must be approved before they are incurred, to allow for effective budgeting."
To support our new expense policy, and to drive greater diversity, we are also encouraging volunteers to interact more through the use of collaborative tools, such as video conferencing, Skype, conference calls and email to widen opportunities and engagement for all members.
To aid members in using these new tools, we have now confirmed dates for training sessions. These sessions, especially relevant for our volunteer chairs, are designed to allow you to ask questions and find out more about the policy.
London | Holborn Gate
8 September
13.00 to 14.00
Edinburgh | Exchange Crescent
15 September
13.00 to 14.00
If you're unable to attend in person, we'd encourage you to make use of our conference call facilities and dial into the session(s). To register your interest and receive dial-in details, please contact Debbie Atkins, head of volunteer engagement. If you are unable to dial in or attend, please email Debbie, as we have flexibility to extend the session times.
