The Student Society of Actuaries in Ireland held its annual barbeque event in Everleigh Garden, an award-winning venue located on Dublin's Harcourt Street, on 19 May. The event attracted over 100 students and recent qualifiers, all eager to mark the end of exams and kick off the summer of 2016.

The attendees were greeted with a mouth-watering Mexican barbeque, all laid out in Everleigh's atmospheric garden area. Tortillas and tacos filled with chilli beef, chicken or steak and delicious salads satisfied even the largest of appetites. Some complementary drinks were also provided to ensure the thirsts of all were sufficiently quenched.

A selection of giant board games were set up in the venue and provided much entertainment for the duration of the night. The competitive nature of many was unveiled through playing games such as Giant Jenga and Connect4. Some amazing prizes were offered to those who excelled in their game of choice.

The grand finale arrived when the top prize, a GoPro camera was up for the taking. This prize was kindly sponsored by Acumen Resources. After battling it out through several rigorous games of Giant Connect4, Mairead Loughlin rose to the top as the eventual worthy winner. She showed great composure under pressure, and her ample analytical skills were evident for all to see. Jenny Johnson (top left) from Acumen Resources was also in attendance on the night to present this wonderful prize to Mairead (top right).

The night was enjoyed by all and was a wonderful way to start the summer of 2016. The committee would like to thank Everleigh Garden for helping us run such a successful event. Thanks also to the students and recent qualifiers who were in attendance. We will see you at the next one.
