IFoA: Disciplinary Tribunal Panel

Open-access content 5th March 2014

At a hearing of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries' Disciplinary Tribunal on 14 January, the respondent, Mr Michael Nairne McShee (former FFA), was charged with failure to complete the required amount of continuing professional development (CPD) and failure to maintain an online record of CPD undertaken as required by the CPD Scheme of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries for the year 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011 and failure to respond appropriately to requests for information from the case manager and investigation actuary.

The charge relating to the failure to respond to the requests of the case manager and investigation actuary was withdrawn by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. The tribunal found the remaining two charges proven and determined that they amounted to misconduct.

The tribunal imposed the following sanctions:

• A reprimand and a fine of £2,000 for the failure to complete the required CPD.

• A reprimand and a fine of £1,000 for the failure to maintain an online record of CPD undertaken.

A full copy of the Tribunal's determination can be found at www.actuaries.org.uk
