Worshipful Company bridge pairs win prizes

Chris Pullan reports on a successful night for the Worshipful Company of Actuaries at the 30th Inter-Livery Bridge competition

On 5 March, five card-playing pairs represented the Worshipful Company of Actuaries in the 30th Inter-Livery Bridge Competition, held in London’s magnificent Drapers’ Hall and organised by The Worshipful Company of Makers of Playing Cards.

The pairs were Graham Clay and Peter Bennett, Sos Green and John MacLeod, Juliet and Richard Hawkes, John Simon and Peter Turvey, and John Lockyer and Chris Pullan. The total number of pairs participating was 60.

The Company won three prizes, including the pairs and the team events. John Lockyer, Master of the Worshipful Company of Actuaries, and Chris Pullan narrowly won the pairs competition. With Sos Green and John MacLeod, who finished sixth, the actuaries won the team event. This is given to the company with the highest-ranked second pair.

Sos Green and John MacLeod also won the prize for the highest pair containing a court member who had not won a pairs prize, John Lockyer having been excluded.

The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor of London Alderman, David Wootton, presented the prizes at the end of the evening, which was held in aid of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.
