Grant Thornton actuaries claim SIAS quiz crown

Open-access content Tuesday 28th February 2012 — updated 5.13pm, Wednesday 29th April 2020

Following the resounding success of last year’s event, the City Pipe pub provided the perfect atmosphere for the annual SIAS pub quiz for the second year running.

2

Thirty-three teams registered, attempting witty and imaginative team names with varying degrees of success!
'It hurts when I Quiz 1' won the prize for best-named team.

The quiz was a meaty one, with challenging questions of all types. Sport, music, picture and general knowledge rounds were topped with a couple of speed rounds.

The winner of the quiz was 'Joy Hoover Division' from Grant Thornton. The team had been on a clear winning streak from the outset, not even being thrown by the final two rounds, when negative marking was introduced.

The grand finale was a nail-biter, following the shock announcement that three teams had tied for second place. The teams went head to head in a tie-breaker, with the FSA's 'We put the cool into techni-cool provisions' taking second spot. They were closely followed by 'Henry's Hoovers' from Austin Professional Resourcing.

Many thanks to the quiz masters, the City Pipe and all entrants for making the quiz such a huge success! We look forward to you joining us again next year!
