On 27 September, about 20 members of the Worshipful Company of Actuaries and friends met in the Masters Pimlico kitchen for a second chocolate tasting arranged in conjunction with master chocolatier William Curley. The chocolate was accompanied by a fine selection of red wines from the Masters cellar.
Each year, the Worshipful Company of Actuaries (WCA) rewards an actuary who has made a significant difference to a charity. This may be through fundraising, volunteering or even helping to run a charity.
Anran Chen, a third year PhD actuarial science student at Cass Business School, has been awarded the 2017 Dimitris N Chorafas Foundation Award for her thesis: The Impact of Behavioural Factors in Annuitisation Decisions and Decumulation Strategies.
On 17 November, 700 actuaries and their guests visited the Tower of London for the sell-out 2017 SIAS Annual Dinner. For this extravaganza, SIAS took us back to the 1920s with the theme Party like Gatsby. The reception cocktails, champagne, popcorn, and the amazing saxophone player, built up the anticipation for the evening ahead.
The IFoA encourages organisations that employ at least three qualified actuaries to appoint a continuing professional development (CPD) co-ordinator. Andrew Blain of Willis Towers Watson and nine other CPD co-ordinators have created a three-minute film to encourage more firms to adopt this recommendation.
