Equity release thematic review report and future reviews

Open-access content Wednesday 30th November 2022
g

The IFoA Review Team will shortly publish its fifth report, Equity release: actuaries working in propositions and pricing (bit.ly/AMS_Publications).

Actuaries have played a leading role in developing the market for equity-release products; the long-term nature of the products, coupled with risks such as longevity, long-term care need and pricing of options, means that the actuarial skillset is ideal for delivering a proposition that meets both customers’ and firms’ needs. In this thematic review report, the IFoA takes an in-depth look at the role of actuaries and the current regulatory and economic environment. Further communications on the report will accompany its publication.

Work also continues on the IFoA’s sixth thematic review on advice to sponsors of UK defined benefit pension schemes, and we are also pleased to announce four topics for future reviews: data science, pensions on divorce, cyber risk, and pension scheme benefit design.

We look forward to engaging with members and other stakeholders when work begins to scope each of these topics during the next two years. If you have an interest in one or more of these topics, the Review Team would be pleased to hear from you.

The IFoA Thematic Review Programme is part of the Actuarial Monitoring Scheme, designed to improve the effectiveness of actuarial regulation in the public interest, provide meaningful, credible, independent feedback to members and their employers, and promote ongoing reinforcement and continuous improvement.
