The IFoA Conference took place across two days in June in central London. We were delighted to wel-come people to the event space close to Liverpool Street station.

Unfortunately, the event coincided with the rail strike taking place that week (as well as a tube strike the day before the conference), and our new president Matt Saker was struck down with COVID-19 the day before the conference, so had to join remotely. Despite these setbacks, we were thrilled that so many people were still able to attend in person (and virtually), particularly on the first day (which was in-between rail strike days).
This was our first in-person conference since 2019, so we were especially pleased that we were finally able to award Finlaison medals to Ronnie Bowie, Andrew Chamberlain and David Hare in recognition of their commitment and service to the actuarial profession. We also conferred Honorary Fellowships on Paul Johnson and Dr Amlan Roy, who both spoke at the event.
We would like to express our thanks and gratitude to all those speakers who helped to make our first hybrid event a success. We were delighted to be able to offer attendees such a breadth of thoughtful, stimulating and engrossing content. Thank you to everyone who took time out from their day jobs to prepare and deliver content – we couldn’t have done it without you.
Thank you also to our sponsors, Hyperexponential and Milliman, and to our exhibitors, Capita, Conning, HFG and Software Alliance.
Last, but by no means least, we want to express our thanks to everyone who attended the conference. As you will know, this was our first hybrid event. Over the summer we will be analysing the feedback you gave us in your survey questionnaires, reflecting on what went well and taking time to consider where we can improve so that we can offer an even better conference next year.
As one conference door closes, another one opens. Our work and planning now turns to the GIRO (21–23 November) and LIFE (23–25 November) Conferences taking place later this year in Liverpool; we hope you’ll be able to join us for these exciting in-person events. See you there.
