Discover the world of tomorrow’s actuary

Open-access content Wednesday 3rd August 2022 — updated 1.18pm, Tuesday 9th August 2022

The IFoA has launched a new digital initiative, designed to support our commitment to remaining at the forefront of the curve and help shaping the profession’s future.

tydd

The Innovation Lab, which can be found on our website, is a place where actuaries can explore and submit game-changing ideas and insights for addressing existing and emerging challenges to our planet. When you visit this digital space, you will find a series of videos from members who have already contributed their fresh thinking, based on three key themes: planet, population and economies.

The Innovation Lab was born out of the IFoA’s desire to provide an environment for experimental thinking from our members. It is an opportunity to question the norm. It is your place to discover and contribute to insights for the world of tomorrow’s actuary and join a community of leading actuaries to share perspectives on some of our most urgent shared challenges.

How does it work? If you have an interesting outlook or opinion that you want to share, or a concept that challenges or confronts the status quo, we invite you to visit the Lab, where we ask questions such as, ‘What does tomorrow look like for you, your organisation and the profession?’. You can submit your videos to our email address, [email protected], noting that we will review all videos before publication to the Lab.

Alternatively, if you’d first prefer to understand how the Lab works and hear what others have to say, then simply come to the website and explore the existing collection of videos. This exciting set of viewpoints from your counterparts and colleagues from around the world will no doubt inspire you and provoke further discussion. And, of course, when you find ideas that particularly resonate with you, or that you believe will be of interest to others, we invite you to share the content with your colleagues or organisations.

We want to see discussion and debate flourish so actuaries will use the Lab to push the ideas they hear in new and different directions, challenging and building on each other’s contributions.

This is a developing project for us and for our members, and we are at the beginning of what will be an exciting experience for us all.

To see what it’s all about, and to share your views and opinions on the emerging challenges to our planet, population and economies, visit actuaries.org.uk/thought-leadership/ifoa-innovation-lab/
