The Actuary The magazine of the Institute & Faculty of Actuaries

Letters: Comerford (merger)

If the proposed merger between the Faculty and Institute of Actuaries goes ahead, what is the UK Actuarial Profession’s next move? I presume that when Scotland and England / England, Wales & Northern Ireland are independent, the UK (sic) Profession will seek to develop a single brand identity for actuaries worldwide - or perhaps only the English speaking world?

The confusion currently caused by separate professional bodies for actuaries in England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the USA is clearly intolerable - and just think about the possible efficiency savings from running a worldwide actuarial body (to be located, of course, in the centre of the universe - somewhere between Oxford and London I think).

At the very least, a (hostile?) takeover of The Society of Actuaries in Ireland is a logical imperative - a coherent media voice and single professional brand demands no less!
