To baa with the same brush

Your editorial in April gainsays the role of the brush in tarring. The origins of the phrase ‘All tarred with the same brush’ is in sheep farming. When I last marked sheep (in the 1940s) I seem to remember that getting an identical mark was a pretty important part of the process; not least for the sheep.
