New helmsmen for advice service

TPAS (formerly OPAS), the Pensions Advisory Service, welcomes a new chairman, the familiar face of Partha Dasgupta (formerly of the PPF), and a new CEO, Marta Phillips, who comes from outside the pensions industry. Retiring after many years of service will be Malcolm McLean, the far-from-retiring face of plaintalking on pensions in the media.

TPAS continues the role OPAS had of coordinating volunteers to help people in the first line of external enquiry over problems with pension schemes, solving many before they escalate to the ombudsman. It also takes on wider roles in the education of the public, one that will have a larger significance when the potential coverage for pensions increases markedly in 2012.
