’Dick’ Barton’

CE (Dick) Barton died on 15 February 2004, aged 77. He became a fellow of the Institute and Burn prizewinner in 1954 and spent his whole working life at the Prudential. In 1964 he presented a paper to the Students’ Society advocating asset shares as the basis for bonus distributions on with-profits policies, a proposition not generally accepted until the 1980s. He continued to be a determined advocate of policyholders’ interests throughout his career and after his retirement. He was also a very active member of the Debtors (until 1970), Ornaments, and Denarius dining clubs.
