Appointments and moves

David Lang has joined Ernst & Young as a director in the London and Bermuda insurance team. Mr Lang joins from insurance group QBE, where he was managing director for the Lloyd's division, in addition to being operations director for European operations.

Graham Fulcher has joined Watson Wyatt's non-life actuarial team. Prior to his appointment, Mr Fulcher held the role of chief actuary for Ace European Group.

Transamerica Reinsurance, a unit of Transamerica Life Insurance Company, has announced the return of David O'Brien to its senior management team as a senior vice president in its international division. Mr O'Brien will focus on growth in international markets. He was previously a senior vice president at Lehman Brothers in its insurance products group, and a director of Bermuda- based Leham Re. Prior to that he served as the chief pricing actuary for Transamerica Reinsurance's US life business.

MGM Advantage, the retirement income specialist has appointed Mark Joannes as commercial actuary in its designs for retirement team. Mr Joannes will be responsible for product pricing and supporting product development. He was previously at Watson Wyatt, and prior to that was strategic marketing manager at GE Capital.

Partnership Assurance has appointed Robin Houghton as chief actuary and board member. Mr Houghton continues to specialise in the annuity market having spent two years at pension buyout start-up Synesis Life. He also previously worked as a life actuarial consultant at Watson Wyatt.

Dale Lee has joined GB Actuaries and Consultants, the recently formed business and nonlife actuarial consultants. Mr Lee has more than 25 years' experience in non-life actuarial work, underwriting and new business ventures. He was previously group actuary at Thomas Miller and Company.

Axa has appointed Mark Versey as chief investment officer of its UK insurance operations. Mr Versey started his career as a consulting actuary at Tillinghast, prior to working in investment banking. He was previously at Morgan Stanley.

The Financial Reporting Council has announced that Robert Inglis has joined as project director at the Board for Actuarial Standards (BAS), where he will be working on the programme of transition from the guidance notes adopted in 2006, to the new technical actuarial standards issued by BAS. Mr Inglis has previously worked for Mercer and HMRC.

White Mountains Insurance Group has appointed Jeff Davis as senior vice president and chief actuary of White Mountains. In addition, Mr Davis will take on the roles of executive vice president and chief actuary of White Mountains Re. For the past three years, he has served as head of central reserving with Munich Re.

Jean Drouffe has been appointed finance director at Axa Insurance following a reorganisation of the business. Mr Drouffe joined Axa UK in 2004 as head of financial risk management.

KPMG has announced that Trevor Jones has been appointed a partner in its life insurance actuarial practice and Ash Ruparelia a director in its non-life actuarial practice from 1 October.

Mark Airey has been appointed as director of insurance for Tesco Personal Finance, based in Edinburgh. Mr Airey will be responsible for developing TPF's existing general insurance business. He was previously a senior consultant at Tillinghast Towers Perrin, and has also held positions at KPMG and Saga.

John Feely, Maurice Whyms and Tara Flynn have established Attain Consulting, a Dublin-based pensions and actuarial consulting firm.
