Actuary of the future: Grace Huang

Describe yourself in three words. It’s organised mess.

What’s the best thing about your job?
The variety. I’ve been involved in client meetings, networking events and recruitment, as well as the technical stuff.

And the worst?
Getting there! Anyone who cites queuing etiquette as a quintessential English custom has never tried to get on a rush-hour train.

What is your formula for success?
Whatever you do, have a good reason for doing it.

What’s your best attribute?
I have inherited my parents’ strong work ethic, but I always have time for a good giggle.

And your worst?
Hitting the snooze button. I may have a strong work ethic, but I love my sleep.

How do you relax away from the office?
I get the calendar and guidebooks out and plan my next holiday.

Alternative career?
This is the alternative career. I first entered professional life as a concert pianist, and I also taught piano at a girls’ boarding school in Kent.

Favourite book/CD/gadget/?
Book: The Good Food Guide 2007. CD: Guns ‘n’ Roses: Live Era 87-93. Gadget: My dishwasher, although that’s more of an appliance than a gadget, I guess. Gadgets are for boys.

Who would you most like to be stuck in a lift with?
My husband and two-year-old daughter. These days, it’s rare that we’re all in the same place at the same time. Of course, this would only be a good idea if we had a big suitcase full of toys, books and snacks. Maybe also some other toddlers to play with, and possibly a small trampoline.
