We are delighted to announce that Kartina Tahir Thomson is the next IFoA president-elect. Her tenure begins in June, when Kalpana Shah becomes president, and she will then serve as president from June 2024.
Kartina is a senior director at WTW and brings 25 years of diverse actuarial, risk, governance and regulatory experience. She is also a director on the board of a publicly listed firm.
She has had a varied career, including six years at the Bank of England, where she supervised a portfolio of insurance firms responsible for ensuring the UK financial market’s stability. Before that, she was CRO at an insurance company and also led the risk and analytics proposition for a global insurance broker. She did her actuarial training at a couple of large global insurance companies.
Kartina has served on the IFoA Council for six years, is a member of the IFoA Audit and Risk Committee, and has been on the Actuarial Association of Europe’s Board of Directors for four years. She is passionate about inclusion, social mobility and education, which she has channelled as IFoA Foundation chair for the past three years.
Kartina said: “It is an honour to be entrusted with the role by my fellow Council members. By nurturing a collaborative and inclusive culture, we can deepen the impact of the profession both in the UK and internationally and continue to make a difference in addressing the societal challenges that we face.”
