Actuary roles second only to accountants

Actuarial science is the second-most internet-searched finance career, and the only one in the insurance sector to make it into the ‘top 10’.

Online trading platform CMC Markets, analysing monthly job searches on Google, found that actuaries accounted for 166,600 job searches a month. In December, 1,030 actuarial jobs were advertised on recruitment website Indeed.

Actuarial professionals are searching on average 1,200 times per month for jobs, reports CMC Markets.

Auditor jobs ranked number one in popularity, with 222,500 monthly Google searches. People are searching on average 5,000 times per month for “auditor jobs” and 500 times per month for “auditor careers”.

Actuaries beat corporate banking, which had 96,280 Google searches per month, into third place as the most desirable career in finance.

“Despite the scarcity of jobs in some industries, it seems that there is a noticeable interest within different sectors of the finance world,” said CMC Markets chief market analyst Michael Hewson. “As a whole, financial careers are being searched for 2,935,840 times per month on Google.”
