At present, around 4,000 IFoA members choose to volunteer with the IFoA. From providing valuable feedback via the 400 Club to sitting on boards and committees that produce content, their efforts contribute not just to the development of the IFoA but also to the wider profession.

Who are our volunteers? The vast majority are members, not just from the UK but also from across the globe, who are committed to contributing their time, knowledge and skills to make an impact on the profession – something the IFoA never takes for granted. We know many of our volunteers also see the benefits in their career development and wider networking. We are extremely fortunate to be able to call on such dedicated individuals.
As a member-focused organisation, volunteers lie at the heart of the IFoA. We consider this a partnership that, like all partnerships, involves respect, learning and room for growth. We are committed to supporting and enabling volunteers to deliver the best possible outcome, which ultimately means that they are at the centre of ensuring that the actuarial professional is influential and sought after, and that the role and profile of actuaries in the wider socioeconomic landscape is recognised.
As one volunteer said recently: “If you want a sense of belonging and want to contribute meaningfully to the direction of this profession, then volunteering is the best way. It is a very time-efficient way of being involved while still pursuing an actuarial career full time. In addition, nothing beats the feeling of belonging to a global community that actually cares about your opinion.”
