Banking pre-Fellowship pathway update

Open-access content Wednesday 3rd November 2021

As part of our commitment to help you rise to the challenges of our new world, we are working with the Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA) and our banking community to support a new IFoA Fellowship pathway in banking.

From 2022, if you successfully complete the new ASSA online banking modules, you will be exempt from our equivalent-level examinations.

To support you on your qualification journey, ASSA is working to make full tuition materials and information on how to register for the May 2022 examinations available from early November. You can find the ASSA syllabi at bit.ly/Banking_LL

IFoA returns to party conferences

After a pandemic-induced hiatus, the IFoA’s Public Affairs team returned to the party conference circuit this year, attending both the Labour and Conservative conferences in Brighton and Manchester respectively. The party conferences provide a unique opportunity to engage with multiple parliamentarians and stakeholders on the IFoA’s policy priorities, and this year’s events felt even more important, given the lack of face-to-face engagement during the past 18 months. Big wins for The Actuary

October was a great month for The Actuary magazine. We were delighted when the magazine’s website won Best Website at the Memcom awards, which recognise excellence in professional membership. The website was up against some stiff competition, including the Royal College of Psychiatrists, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine and the UK Council for Psychotherapy.

Volunteer recruitment

At present, around 4,000 IFoA members choose to volunteer with the IFoA. From providing valuable feedback via the 400 Club to sitting on boards and committees that produce content, their efforts contribute not just to the development of the IFoA but also to the wider profession.

Finding our voice

We want our members to have rewarding and fulfilling careers. There is no set ‘landing zone’ for this, but underpinning our approach is the belief that the best thing we can do is ensure actuaries have a vision for the future, a growth mindset, and the knowledge that we will help them develop the skillsets and learning they need.
