We at The Actuary are dedicated to ensuring that our environmental impact remains as small as possible. Details of the measures that we are taking to achieve this can be found below.

Paper and printing:

The Actuary's printer, Wyndeham Group, operates an environmental management system which has been assessed as conforming to ISO 14001:2004 standards. Wyndham has also previously been crowned Magazine Printing Company of the year at the PPA Production and Environment Awards.

The paper used for the production of The Actuary is sourced from a mill operating a certified environmental management system and holding third party audited chain of custody certification, with pulp originating from responsibly managed forests and controlled sources.

More information on what Wyndham Group is doing to limit its impact on the environment and reduce the cartoon footprint related to its manufacturing can be found here.

Polywrap:

The polywrap used to distribute The Actuary is not biodegradable but it is LDPE 4 recyclable. Many of the UK's larger supermarkets now offer recycling facilities for LDPE plastics that carry the label with the message 'recycle with carrier bags at larger stores - not at kerbside'. Some local councils are also beginning to collect carrier bags and other LDPE 4 packaging as part of household recycling schemes.  You can find out more details of how to recycle plastic products here: https://www.recyclenow.com/what-to-do-with/plastic-film

These supermarkets offer LDPE 4 plastic collection points at larger stores:

  • The Co-operative
  • Waitrose
  • Tesco
  • Asda
  • Morrisons
  • Sainsbury's

However, we are acutely aware that readers want the least environmentally damaging form of magazine distribution possible, and to this end we check the market routinely to ensure that no newly introduced option is overlooked.

Information from the manufacturers of The Actuary polythene can be found here. If you like you can send The Actuary magazine plastic film and send back to them where it is directly recycled.
