Sally Bridgeland and Nick Salter scale death defying heights

On 14 October 2016, the Master of the Worshipful Company of Actuaries (Sally Bridgeland) and the Junior Warden and past President of the IFoA (Nick Salter) abseiled down the outside of St Lawrence Jewry church beside the Guildhall in London.

Neither of them like heights so it was a significant challenge to climb over the edge at 94 feet above the pavement!

Sally went first and made it look easy (once she had freed one leg that had got stuck in the columns at the top) and Nick followed much more slowly (dangling rather than abseiling, it must be said!).

Both survived the challenge but have vowed not to repeat the experience! The aim was to raise money for the Lord Mayor’s appeal (supporting the Sea Cadets and JDRF which helps people with Type 1 diabetes) and they are very grateful to all their supporters, between them raising more than £11,000, which is a fantastic result.
