Actuaries conker all

Conkers afforded your news editor and other children much amusement in the dark days before computer games or even TV, so we were interested to learn that the City of London held its own conker tournament in October. The winner of the City’s event, staged at the Barbican, was rewarded with the glamorous prize of a trip to Portugal, courtesy of sponsor Croft Port. And in the spirit of true competition, the event – won by actuaries Punter Southall – broke a world record. An impressive 286 conker matches fought simultaneously swung them into the Guinness Book of Records.
