Visit China

The actuarial profession and the Staple Inn Actuarial Society (SIAS) are looking for people who are willing to spend a week in China lecturing to students studying for the profession’s examinations.

There are actuarial programmes at the Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing and at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. They both operate as centres for the UK examinations in China. In Beijing they need help in general insurance and pensions and in Shanghai they need help in life insurance and general insurance.

Lectures take place in the mornings and the rest of the day can be used as the lecturer wishes.

SIAS is promoting this project and is particularly keen to attract young lecturers for this development opportunity. A modest honorarium may be available, financed by SIAS, in cases where the actuary’s employer is not willing to support the volunteer’s involvement and the individual does the work in their own time. Airfares (economy) and accommodation will be provided by the universities.

If you are interested, please contact Maria Perry at Napier House, email mariap@actuaries.org.uk, tel 01865-268232.
