Insight into risk at Cass

Cass Business School recently hosted ‘Insight into Risk’, a research showcase from Cass’s newly reformed Faculty of Actuarial Science and Insurance (FASI).

The main part of the event was a reception with poster displays covering the wide variety of research carried out at Cass. There were also three brief presentations to give overviews of some of the particular research ideas emerging from Cass:

  • Professor Richard Verrall, head of the faculty, opened the evening with an overview of research in non-life insurance, looking particularly at issues associated with risk management and reserving.
  • Professor Steven Haberman, deputy dean, elaborated on the much-publicised challenges associated with mortality rates and pensions by offering his insights into the medium- and long-term horizons for this sector.
  • Professor Les Mayhew, head of the Risk Institute, outlined recent research on the demand for private prefunded long-term care in the UK.

The posters and presentations can be viewed and downloaded at www.cass.city.ac.uk/story_1_26_64998.html and the new faculty pages are at www.cass.city.ac.uk/facact/index.html.
