Communications and salutations

Many members have told us how much they like the new style and format for e-newsletters and how easy it is to find relevant information. Here are a few of your comments:

Some of you have asked whether it would be possible to select a different salutation (such as ‘Dear Mr Smith’ instead of ‘Dear John’) or give a preferred name (such as ‘Dear Jim’ instead of ‘Dear James’). Changes have now been made to the Profession’s IT systems and it is now possible for each member to choose their preferred form of address. Follow these steps to make the change.

1. Log on to www.actuaries.org.uk
2. Click on ‘Members’
3. Click on ‘Transactions and personal information’
4. Log-in using your ARN as your username and your date of birth in the format dd/mm/yyyy as the password (unless you have previously changed it)
5. Click on ‘Your contact details’
6. On the right-hand side of the screen you will see the ‘Personalisation’ field showing the name currently on your record. To change this, click the ‘Update’ button.
7. Type the name by which you wish to be addressed and click ‘Submit’
8. The screen will revert to the ‘Contact details’ page, showing the changes you have made.
9. Log out (at the top right corner of the screen).

Any changes will be effective from the next communication you receive.
