Along came an actuary?

Last month’s news on the film Along came Polly may have been over-actuarial: according to various actuaries who have seen the film, there is no reference at all to Ben Stiller’s character being an actuary – he seems to be some form of risk assessor. Wishful thinking, perhaps?

However, we can report that Ben Stiller is not completely unactuarial: he had the great fortune, at the age of 2, of being our editor’s playmate when they lived in neighbouring apartments on Riverside Drive, New York in the late 1960s. (Coming up next month: how the editor shared remedial latin classes with Sam Mendes, director of American Beauty.)
