Tuesday 9 February
When pensions and insurance collide

The credit crunch meant a subdued start for the bulk buy-out market in 2009, with activity only really returning in the last quarter of the year. Nick Grainger and David Collinson will speak on how this market brings together insurance, pension and investment actuaries, recent developments in the bulk buy-out market, and what the future may hold in 2010.

There is no need to register in advance for this event. Refreshments will be available from 5:30pm for a 6pm start. Following the meeting there will be a free drink and buffet at a nearby pub.

Love Salsa? Love Jive? Enjoy the fusion at our Ceroc Night which promises to be packed with fun! This is a wonderful opportunity to show off your dance moves and impress your colleagues. Don’t worry if you haven’t done this before as our dance instructors will ensure that everyone is a pro by the end of the night.

An holistic framework for life cycle financial planning

Joshua Corrigan Joshua Corrigan will be presenting a paper entitled ‘An holistic framework for life cycle financial planning’. The paper looks at all the elements impacting long-term financial planning decisions such as the importance of human capital, the impact of asset allocation, product selection and risk protection strategies, the objective assessment of product outcomes and the influence behavioural biases have on the determination of ‘value’ and the decision-making process. These concepts are of central importance to not only the financial planning process, but also investment strategy, product design and retirement planning. There is no need to register in advance for this event. Refreshments will be available from 5:30pm for a 6pm start. Following the meeting there will be a free drink and buffet at a nearby pub.

Poker night

To bluff or not to bluff... that is the question! After the success of last year’s event, SIAS is hosting another poker night. No experience needed. If you’re a beginner then you can take part in the practice sessions beforehand and, if you’re unlucky in the tournament, then you can carry on the fun by playing on other tables. Beginners’ practice sessions start from 6pm and the main competition starts at 6.30pm. There will be cash prizes for everyone who makes it to the last table.

There will be a bar open until late, and SIAS will be providing a buffet included in the ticket price of £23 for SIAS members (£30 for non-SIAS members).
