Malcolm Kemp steps into ERM PEC chairman role

After two years as chair of the ERM Practice Executive Committee (ERM PEC), Colin Ledlie is stepping down and is delighted that Malcolm Kemp has agreed to take over the role with effect from 19 March.

Malcolm is managing director of Nematrian Limited, which is developing intellectual property and providing consultancy services to the financial services sector. Until mid-2009, Malcolm was an executive director and head of quantitative research at Threadneedle Asset Management, his responsibilities including derivatives, performance measurement, risk management, liability-driven investment and other quantitative investment activities.

Malcolm is aiming to develop further the scope and reach of the ERM Practice Area. “The ERM Practice Area benefits from a great team of volunteers and staff who have worked hard to enhance the credentials of the actuaries in the ERM field. It will be a privilege to contribute further to the articulation of why actuaries should play a key role in this important area of business practice. There is so much that actuaries already offer, not just in the holistic management of risk that is the hallmark of ERM but also in each of the sub-disciplines on which practical risk management depends. Our goal should be for actuaries to be recognised as the leading professionals in this space, not just within traditional areas in which actuaries are strong, but also in newer disciplines.”
