Equitable Life Assurance Society archive: Appeal will meet its target - with a little more help!

The Profession’s Library and Publications Committee extends its warmest thanks to all contributors, whose generous donations have enabled the appeal to reach over £57,000. Although the closing date for the appeal was 31 March, it is still not too late to contribute as the appeal is being held open for a further period while we finalise the financial position and draw up a plan to try to meet our target of £80,000. For the latest position, please see the members-only section of the profession’s website.

Fellows and student members of the Faculty and Institute have already contributed sums varying from £10 to £5,000. Please consider helping the profession to acquire this important archive by making a donation, however small. Contributions may be sent by cheque (payable to the Actuarial Profession) with a covering note to David Raymont (tel 020-7632 2114) at Staple Inn or via credit card, using the form which may be downloaded from www.actuaries.org.uk/files/pdf/members/appeal_form.pdf or collected from Staple Inn reception. Donors’ names will be permanently associated with the archive unless they wish to remain anonymous.

In addition to the individual donations, substantial contributions have been promised by Barnett Waddingham, Punter Southall, the Staple Inn Actuarial Society, and the Worshipful Company of Actuaries. The profession is grateful to these organisations for their invaluable assistance.

Consideration is already being given to the research and publication programme which would follow on from the acquisition of the archive, if sufficient money is raised for the purchase to go ahead. There is unlikely to be another opportunity to acquire such an important archive in our lifetime.
