Appointments

On 1 September 2003 Ajmal Bhatty joined HSBC to develop takaful business for the group as head of takaful. He will initially be based in Riyadh.

Effective 1 October, Seamus Creedon becomes a consultant to and in association with KPMG, where he formerly headed the actuarial practice. He will combine this flexibly with personal consulting and other projects and with his research, governance, and part-time journalist activities within the actuarial profession itself (cont page 94!).

Jeremy Hill has joined Mercer Human Resource Consulting as a senior consultant and European principal. He previously worked as international team leader for PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Peter Jauhal has been appointed managing director of Inbucon, the human resource consulting firm.

AXA has recently made two senior appointments – both of whom were previously with KPMG. Linsday Smitherman is joining the actuarial function to lead the modelling team, including responsibility for realistic reserves and economic capital. Jennifer Stott has joined the marketing function focusing on business development, developing propositions and relationships with major banks and building societies.

Emma and Brett McWilliam have moved back to London from their secondments to New York. Emma will continue as senior manager with Ernst & Young LLP’s global actuarial leadership team, concentrating on developing IAS advisory services across Europe. Brett returns from leading the global implementation of XL Capital’s risk and capital management initiative, to take up the position of risk manager, life and health for the XL Re UK branch.
