Actuarial children

Your conclusion on page 1 of The Actuary (July) that ‘actuaries do not contribute to online polls’ is, to say the least, suspect. I suggest that your poll represents the normal failure of our profession to sufficiently market ourselves. Perhaps you should conduct another poll to see how many actuaries noticed your first poll and took the decision not to respond. Fewer than those that did?

At the risk of distorting your statistics I confess to six known children, five of whom I fathered, none of whom is an actuary, and three are girls and two boys. I have to admit that two are young enough that they still could become actuaries, but that is not the purpose of your poll.
