SIAS event: Summer boat trip

A warm evening on Friday 23 July welcomed over 150 SIAS members for the SIAS boat trip down the Thames. However, this time there was a theme – Hawaiian!

It was great to see so many turn up in their Hawaiian shirts and hula skirts; the more shy retiring types were presented with a garland on arrival to get them in the party mood.

The complimentary glass of Pimms that greeted the guests upon boarding the boat was a fitting welcome for what lay ahead; the most colourful boat on the Thames, setting sail shortly after 7 o’clock.

The warm evening meant everyone could venture straight out to the upper deck. With a four-piece Caribbean steel band playing in the background, many drinks were consumed as the boat took its course down the river passing Big Ben, Westminster, Battersea Power Station, and on up to Richmond before winding its way back to Tower Bridge.

As night fell, the DJ began getting the guests in the mood for dancing with the latest tunes; guests were keen to show their Hawaiian-style hip hula moves!

A competition for the best-dressed Hawaiian took place towards the end of the night, the winner being the one with the loudest cheer – hindsight is a wonderful thing!

On returning, the dance floor was full, but ‘all good things must come to an end’, as indeed did the 2004 SIAS boat trip.

SIAS would particularly like to thank the other members of the social committee, Trevor Fannin and Leza Engelbrecht, for their help in organising the event and making it a success.
